Babies
We believe it is of utmost importance that babies feel loved, secure and are safe. There is always time to give cuddles to all the 'little ones' in our unit.
The activities that are provided are there to stimulate and challenge the individual child's needs. There is a wide range of equipment to help with this and the staff provide a structured but flexible day for the children. Activities are within the ability of each child and are varied to promote all areas of development. The timetable includes physical activities, tactile and sensory stimulation. Emphasis is placed on language development. Activities involve concentration, listening and creative skills as well as time for free expression and outside play. Specialist music sessions are included in their curriculum.
Staff are trained in baby massage which they practice, with parental consent, during the day.
Children are observed and assessed regularly with each child's records maintained in folders. This is available for parents to view at any time. Staff are available at the begining and end of every session to talk to parents about their child's day. Parents are also encouraged to telephone the nursery at any point throughout the day.
The baby unit has a separate cot room for younger babies, a children's toilet a carpeted area and a dining section. The unit has direct access into their own garden area. The babies milk kitchen is situated off the main kitchen. Children move to the toddler unit when appropriate.
